The idea: The analytically smart pony has a balloon. And rather than use it for pranks like Rainbow Dash or Applejack did, fun like Pinkie and Derpy and Trixie did, or sharing with her animals like Fluttershy, Twilight applies SCIENCE! With SCIENCE-Y GADGETS!
The silly figures on the board are to look like she used it for something. It would look even weirder to be blank than to have inconsequential space-filler on it.
it might not be brainwaves,
that is a machine created by a talking magic unicorn, those readings could be anything, maybe it is telling that magically turning a pony into soft rubber is possible?…
Well why does she need to monitor its brainwaves for that?
And why is she getting results?
