Party-pooper… :P
I agree, and yeah I hear Fire Emblem is mostly popular in Japan.
Meanwhile characters & series popular in America like Metroid, Star Fox, Sonic, and Punch-Out aren’t popular in Japan. In fact, there was some drama from Japanese SSB players when Li’l Mac was announced, while Americans were very pleased. The 2 markets are very divided.
You may not realize, and I can gather since you don’t play too many RPGs, but Fire Emblem is popular only in Japan, and so several boards have expressed massive disdain from Kamui’s inclusion, but since most of them are in English…
Meaning if it wasn’t for Kamui, Issac’s chances would be higher. Interviews have claimed the reason Sakurai included him in the first place was because his team at Sora begged him.
Usually, irrational people will blame one man for the decisions of others, kind of like George W. :T
I guess Golden Sun, and SMRPG are too niche to be included. Plus they want more room for more Fire Emblem characters.
Apparently, one of the most talked about possibles was Issac from Golden Sun. His chances were high, but Sakurai’s staff begged him to approve Kamui, and… XD
I don’t know much about FF honestly. I haven’t really played them. I’m not to into RPGs anymore, (as I don’t have time for them, most take forever to play) but I prefer more quirky RPGs like Earthbound or Chrono Trigger. Or shorter ones like RPG Mario titles.
I prefer FFIV’s story, but FFVI’s gameplay. Though, when it comes to characters with the most suitable powers for Smash Bros., I’d go with Onion Knight or Vaan. :j
FF6 is still regarded as the best 2D FF game.
Far from it. I had made a Geno Mii and Mii fighter to put in his costume about a month ago, in anticipation of the idea that we wouldn’t get him, but we would get his gear.
Then it turns out I was right, which I was kinda disappointed about (Stupid FFVII, why is it so popular when it’s nowhere near as good as FFVI?).
It’s probably the closest we’ll ever see of him being in SSB, so I might cash-in for it. (It might show Nintendo & Square/Enix that there is still a fanbase for SMRPG, if many of us buy it.)
I’m probably the only person more excited for the Geno costume then over Cloud.
He’s a Mii outfit!
At this point, I’d be satisified if they just had a trophy cameo of him, or at least one Super Mario RPG-related trophy. They did allow the Geno cameo in M&L:Superstar Saga.
They did sneak one Mario RPG reference in the SSB series though. Princess Peach’s frying pan as you probably know is her most powerful equip weapon in the game.
(Or it’s possibly a reference to her “Chef” game in Game & Watch Gallery 2 & 4.)
It’s partly why we want Geno in Smash Bros.
Stupid Squeenix keeping it from happening.
Funny you mention that game, I was actually playing through Super Mario RPG again for the first time in quite awhile. (And got the Star Egg item for the first time, which is kinda tedious to get from the Grate Guy.)
And yeah, they did a good job of making fun of that FF trope of your allies “disapearing” into the main character, and only coming out for certain events, and such. The RPG Mario games always have a good sense of humor.
Played it. Very fun. :3
It’s actually a fairly common trope. So common that they make fun of it in Super Mario RPG. A Super Nintendo game. (Which is also amazing, go find a rom of it)
I know. Both have characters going into the player character like some freaky scifi whatsit. I never played FF7 so I associate that pic with Golden Sun, noting that I started gaming with the Gamecube and GBA like a bastard runt. X3
…That’s Final Fantasy VII.
Ah, yes, the Golden Sun thing. (Can you tell I’m really fucking young? :j )
The picture is a link, and the page image for “Party in my Pocket.”
Which, in retrospect, is a VERY appropriate trope for this picture.
I doubt all the context in the universe could explain this. XD
