No, the writers and artists of the comics have said the same too, for the same reasons - they don’t want to have a major plot idea that appears in a commercial work to be based on something they read by a fan to avoid a legal issue later.

They can show more flexibility, but I can assure you that the artists have very little knowledge of the fandom unless it is super clear (like Doctor Whooves); they have no idea about shipping, etc. and probably prefer to not to.
