Writers’ oversight?
I think that theory was spun around when we found out that Element of Magic was always in the shape of her cutie star-shaped cutie mark. But its a bit confusing since the Mane 6 are supposed to walk in the footsteps of the pre-Equestria Mane 6, which included Clover the Clever, not her master.
