/mlp/ posted some tweets where Big Jim himself said Hasbro had no plans or intentions of making a FiM movie at all, and there’s nothing the animation and writing team could do about that.
 
This negative was later confirmed on other animator’s tweets.

Not seen anything yet to indicate that it won’t get a limited theater release like the first one. That, too, was designed as a DVD release first and foremost. The theatrical run in select low-budget theaters was secondary to that.
