I’m fairly certain that behavior can be summarized with “muh freedoms”. Oh yeah, someone takes your rights to own guns and to be an asshole without any consequences and you’ll flip your shit, but as soon something serious happens, no one wants to take responsibility.

@Deserter Yeah pretty much. What’s really crazy is that often most of the hardest oppressed communities have the most guns. There is just something about badges that turn normal people into idiots when they see them. Like, Nevada most certainly outguns and outnumbers its police, yet when little kids get blown up by grenades they don’t all band together and rise up and make some heads roll. (Granted that is also the state that pretty much founded the idea of modern day bread&circuses too sooo…)

…really are you joking? Ever hear of ISIS,Boko Haram,Communist party of India(they ambushed a Indian politician with 200 men and killed his entire convoy),Hamas,brotherhood of Muslims,Irish national liberation army,Kangleipak Communist Party,United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia and literally countless more! And that’s not even counting radical political groups like the Tea party(though their more annoying then threatening),Ukrainian separatist(who shot down a passenger jet killing over 200 people today)or Scottish seperationalist or rouge generals taking over nation like in Egypt,Thailand and Libya.
 
And as for the overfishing.Its not just Japan.while the U.S has pretty good regulation and enforcement most countries don’t overfishing is rampant in the world and fish population on the menu don’t stand a chance. Many formally thriving fish populations have been destroyed such as the cod population of New England who’s collapse lead to an economic disaster. Desperate fisherman trying to feed their families have to compete with mega fishing corporations who use illegal fishing methods don’t obey the law and get no consequence. Fish levels worldwide are shrinking and this seriously messes up the food chain and a result jelly fish are replacing them. So not only will beach season be destroyed but so will millions of people who’s life relies on the ocean.

@Deserter But if you’re not willing to be shot or arrested for your ideals, then exactly how important are they anyway? That sort of thinking leads to the complacency that enables the police state to arise, and the ineffectualness of the populace to combat it.

Everything you just said is illegal. You can’t implement ideas by force because you’re either gonna get arrested or downright shot, and you get fined out the ass for overfishing, so unless we’re talking about the Japanese, that’s not exactly a recurrent problem.

The world will change do or you think the world can just stay on this path of rapid usage for decades? Many commonplace items like cars and phones have vast and complicated manufacturing patterns that require stable global economics. The Cold War was certainly tense but except for some religious tension in the Middle East that got us some oil pains,trade was stable to an extant and growing. The soviet was the big bad and that was an easy foe for the world.Now in every country, in every region their’s some radical group of nationalist ,communist fundamentalist trying to implement their ideas by force or word and not many of them support the global trade market which heavily favors the west.
 
A great deal of the worlds population relies on increasely polluted oceans whose fish populations are in incredible danger and are at breeding levels lower than ever before thanks to overfishing. All in all the world is really only being kept in check not by culture or ideas but by a vague economic pact that is heavily unfair,does not plan for the future and is increasingly fragile.
 
Is this “collapse”(interruption of society) inevitable? Yes in some way but it’s severity and impact can be lessened and even be beneficial if people like you who don’t want it happen focus on guiding the future in a more Efficient global trade system and environmental conscience

Well society has never been more connected,more reliant on each other,more vulnerable! I’m not mankind’s gonna go extinct but with all the pollution,overpopulation and growing tension at stages they have never been at before and the resources necessary To make all those fancy phones,tablets and such keep shrinking its doubtful our “techno” culture can last long without a great and potentially irrecoverable interruption.

You know… In describing the technological world of today, you may have hit the nail on the head. Remember when the iPhone 4 came out? Everyone went nuts over it. It was the latest big thing from Apple. Now we have the iPhone 5, and the iPhone 4 is being offered for free because no one wants one. Gone are the days when things were meant to last. Everything changes so quickly now, and not always for the better. It’s impossible to keep up (and not go broke).
