My bad ,there is a possibility that it’s more a fraud than a malicious scam.  
There is a possiblity that MCE only intended to raise the hopes of the bakers funding that fake sim game and in the last minute,cancelling everything and going all “HAW HAW WE TRAWLL U LULZ” rather than outright stealing their money.  
However,that still make them a bunch of assholes

Obscure trawlling group Million Dollar Extreme (making moves,making moves,making million dollar moves) set up a fundraiser on Kickstarter for a “brony dating sim” called Dark Skies,they ask a funding of 7500 (!)dollars.Of course,they hide the true purpose of the project which is supected to be the delivery of an half backed project and the group getting away with 7500 dollars  
4Chan foud information about the staff of “Dark Skies” and link them with Million Dollar Extreme  
Someone digged up a old message from Sam,the leader of MCE calling about a project “Mayhem” which pretty much say “we are preparing a big scam,shhhhh  
Bakers start to aba,ndon the project and 4Chan digged up the photos of the MCE Crew and MCE start see their whole plan falling apart.
