This is known, thanks to the efforts of The Equestria Daily: there are only 13 episodes; they are normal sized, not hour-long (sorry, they won’t all be 2 parters); and more animation IS being done beyond those episodes.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

It would probably be awesome at first, then, by episode 8 it would start getting tedious due to several episodes that are 50% filler, and could have been resolved in a single episode without problem.
