I’m…living!
Oddly, Kirby 3 on Wii & WiiU VC is still E-rated, but “Kirby’s Dream Collection” got an E-10 rating for having “animated blood.” (In both Kirby 3 & Kirby 64.) Doesn’t that seem odd, to you? It’s also funny how some Nintendo games have blood hidden in them.
As for Mother 1/EarthBound Zero, I sometimes wonder if Nintendo still has the localized version of the game that they almost released… (Seeing as you said they used some things/changes in it for the “Mother 1+2” remake.) Would be nice if they put it on Virtual Console, but I doubt it, sense I don’t think they want to get gamers’ hopes up for more localizations of Japan-only games. (Which would take a long time to translate.) I hear one of the main reasons “Mother 3” was never released here, was because it is very VERY text-heavy, and would take a long time to translate, (the fan-translation project took like 2 or 3 years to complete) and because it was a GBAdvance game released after the DS had come out, so Nintendo was reluctant to release it in America, sense gamers were more into the DS then GBA at the time, and it likely would’ve gotten ignored.
Well, they’re both Nintendo series. ;)
Even Kirby’s Dream Land 3 only had its rating upped to E10+ (still don’t get why Return to Dream Land got an E10+ while Triple Deluxe only got an E, even though Return to Dream Land wasn’t all that different in terms of content but Triple Deluxe had blood in the Dark Meta Knight fight.
Also, Mewtwo looks like Giygas’s original form (or as he was called in most translations of the first game, Giegue). Makes sense, since the Mother series and the Pokemon series share much of the same staff from Creatures Inc. (which was originally known as Ape Inc).
…You know, part of me wants to play the original Mother, but part of me doesn’t want to because of its infamous lack of balance towards the end of the game (Itoi admitted that towards the end that he just wanted to finish making the game and didn’t bother to balance it; once you get to the area named after him, Mt. Itoi, it shows). What’s funny about that is that it was actually fully localized (and titled “Earth Bound”), but Nintendo decided not to release it because the SNES had just come out. I think the ROM files you can get for emulators actually use that translation, which was renamed “Earth Bound Zero” by the guy who discovered it. Also, the GBA “Mother 1 + 2” uses that translation as the basis for its Mother 1 port/remake (since it also fixed several bugs). I hear that the “Mother 1” part of that port is a REALLY good port, but the “Mother 2” (Earthbound) part of “Mother 1 + 2” is… not.
…Amazing how we’re talking about Earthbound on a Zelda image.
Yeah, to be honest Giygas didn’t scare me at first, ‘cause I honestly couldn’t tell what he looked like. Until somebody pointed out that he looks like a warped screaming face, or something, then he got creepier. There are all kinds of rumors of what Giygas actually is, but if going by “Mother 1,” which Itoi confirmed is the same villain, he’s an alien who got turned into evil power itself, and therefore lost his mind, and physical form.
“EarthBound” is the only Nintendo game I can think of that went from E-rated, (the old ESRB K-A “Kid-to-Adult” rating back then meant the same thing as “E for Everyone”) to “T for Teen” rated. Still, at least they aren’t censoring it to get an E-rating like they have other games…
(I’m not normally a fan of violence, but admittedly I feel the final Ganon battle in “Ocarina” lacked some of the emotion/shock with the blood was edited green like when Ganon “coughs-up,” and when Link delivers the “final blow.” I still have my earlier N64 copy of the game with the red blood, in tact.)
Earthbound also had, well, Giygas (I’ve never completed that game, but it’s so well-known that I’m quite familiar with him).
Looking back, that game got away with alot for a “rated E for everyone” game. (Same with “EarthBound,” which surprisingly had a li’l blood to.)
If I could fave comments I would so fave that one XD!!
