I’m not saying Pinkie Pie doesn’t deserve flack for her actions in the newest episode, but good lord people, Fluttershy’s done way worse and gets less than a slap on the wrist.

You can’t blame her completely though, since it was obviously an intentional out of character moment that borderlined brainwashed and crazy.
Well, If you think so.
Not true.
Um, I strongly disagree dude.
It’s been late since the second season.
However, no doubt the majority will start claiming this soon enough. Especially with those reveals about the lifespan of this generation.
Little late for that kind of >inb4.
Yeah, but I understand it. If you’re really sore about something, it can bias you pretty heavily.
Gilda was more than just “rough around the edges” though. That’s not just bias, it’s outright tunnel vision.
Oh, I missed this part somehow. Yeah, it occurred to me after posting that comment that I came off a bit dickish in just assuming you didn’t know how to friend properly. When something like this is a major point of contention for someone it’s usually because of they have strong feelings about it due to personal experience. This particular issue is that way for me as well, though in the opposite direction clearly.
It’s kinda like how Gilda fans that defend her and hate PP and FS in that episode strike me as people who were in the sort of social outcast/punk rock group that disliked seeing someone just dismissed as a jerk because they were a bit rough around the edges while their friend turned their back on them to go hang out with the more popular and well adjusted kids.
We obviously all bring our baggage with us to this show, heh.
I’m not keen on drama, but I do appreciate the discussion aspects of it all. Some people would prefer less analysis and critique, but in a sense I welcome it, in hopes that it will help improve future storytelling, for those of us who are interested in doing that sort of thing.
This seems to be strongly implying to me that emotional harm is merely petty.
Sorry if it came off that way.
What I meant was that all of the relevant factors were accounted for. Fluttershy obviously felt terrible about what she did and Rarity and PP knew it as it was readily apparent. Issue resolved. The petty part is demanding that she pay some ritualistic penance to symbolize how sorry she was even though all parties involved know that she didn’t really mean what she said and felt absolutely awful for having said it to the point where she locked herself away because she thought she would do more damage if she went out. Some people have, for whatever reason, chosen to interpret this as her just running from the problem even though it seemed pretty obvious to me that that wasn’t her intention in taking that action and I seriously doubt that the writers intended to imply she was doing it to just get out of having to apologize.
I just think this whole thing is an overreaction. No friendship is perfect, and when dealing with clashing personality types, sometimes stuff like this happens. Strong friends shrug it off and even laugh about it later.
I’m just saying that this, like much else in this fandom, isn’t worth the drama.
You’re projecting big time. Your friend is not Fluttershy, and vice versa. I saw someone doing this on Reddit once, too. Some people assume that since they know a shy person in real life, they are an expert on how difficult it must be to have Fluttershy as a friend.
It goes without saying that no two people are alike. Fluttershy isn’t THAT easy to offend. How often has it happened? She’s sensitive, yes, but not unreasonably so. Many past generations would be shocked by how much verbal dumping we do these days. “Think before you speak” is not a harsh principle to follow.
I have a friend a lot like Fluttershy. Requires constant care to avoid offending or hurting, interacting with her at all is like walking barefoot through broken glass.
I’m a somewhat exuberant person so it’s a pain in the ass to constantly contain myself, and I sometimes find myself wondering why I try when I’m constantly stumbling into some new fear or sensitivity and then being made to feel like the bad guy. She doesn’t have many close friends and I can tell she really appreciates us sticking with her, but it’s not as easy as people seem to think to constantly have to keep a filter on around your friends. Not being allowed to be yourself or relax for fear of hurting someone’s feelings is very taxing.
Having a friend that is so damn vulnerable can seriously be a pain in the ass, even if you’re conscious of her sensitivity.
Someone as excitable and enthusiastic as Pinkie is bound to fall into this once in a while. Getting up in arms about it is stupid. Friendship is stronger than these misunderstandings.
