When I did that kind of stuff, I just broke down capital letters into their most basic defining lines and eliminated all of the excess. So a Q is just the cross stroke, the R loses the vertical line, etc.
 
At least when I didn’t just use the Standard Galactic Alphabet from Keen.

I tried to make it say something but couldn’t, when I made it I was just making A-Z and the book cover didn’t have repeating characters in it, so if I wanted it to say like Crystal empire or crystal history or something I would’ve needed the cover to have more than one r and e, I added the extra characters afterwards

Leader of the G4 purists
I remember making up a lot of these in school. The more elaborate the runes, the harder it is to remember though. Bonus points for adding a letter per sound. Punctuation really ought to stay as simplistic as possible though, and not be mistakable for another letter.
