A very bizarre and stupid temper tantrum with catastrophic and asphixiating consequences,but still a temper tantrum.

@Grumpykins You know, I wonder if there’s remnants of the magic that possessed her in her helmet (some fics seemed to go that way) or within the old castle. Luna was just fired up on jealousy but didn’t really feel like hurting anyone but her sister.  
Maybe if a more bitter pony was Nightmare-possessed we’d see some actually threatening magickal creations. Even a basic club-handed golem would be better than that silly shit she did in the premiere. (Always kills me when fics trump up NMM as being a sadist or something considering how well, childish her ‘traps’ in the premiere were.)

Problem though, doubt she knows how to use them creatively,I mean she uses her vast knowledge of ancient magic to…stick a thorn at a Manticore’s paw?  
Cut off a sea serpent’s mustasche?  
Illusions dispelled by laughing on trees?  
I mean even her trickery isn’t impressive,I undestand the potential of some powers and “utility”,but living at least a thousand years to plan ahead SHOULD allow you to think outside the box.

@Background Pony #9180 Doflamingo’s isn’t, but he’s def near the top-tier. That’s a good one to bring up since Jojo runs along those lines. Blueno would be one of the most powerful people alive even, if he were using his powers Jojo-style. The dude that revolves around zippers really messed some shit up. Trafalgar Law is probably the closest I can think of, his Room is a lot like Sticky Fingers’ ability, but SF doesn’t need a sword, phrase, or touch to activate it. Similar to Law as he grew he could make the zippers bigger, so he could simply cut Godzilla in half, as an example, by sticking one end at one shoulder and another at the opposite side, then simply unzipping him in half. He’s essentially Law crossed with Blueno, though has such better control over zipper-transportation he can zip himself inside another’s body to take them over. A Blueno equivalent would be if he learned to open a door and then enter inside a person’s head as a miniturised version of himself and directly take over their brain. Or, just, you know, punch it. That would probably hurt too.
 
Another good one is Spice Girl, whose power to ‘soften’ allows her to fight much like a reverse Kuma. She can soften things so they can’t hurt her, and when they return to normal, the amount they had to harden to become normal directly translates to how much power is put into them, so softening things such as concrete can be used to catapult one to Flash-like speeds when it returns to its normal density. The result of softening people or the ground beneath them is kinda like Kuma’s pushing. So yeah, the weirder powers actually have a lot of crossover, just how they activate is different.
 
Also there’s an odd-one-out power wielded by a gambler which avoids combat entirely. He challenges you to any variant of Poker, and once activated you get an amount of chips based on how many friends you have, and every time you lose a full set of a friend’s chips he gets to throw their essence in a soul jar. You quite literally play with your companions’ lives against him.

Fully agreed. And as I said, its more interesting because pony magic has shown such a high level of versatility, which allows Twilight (sometimes) to deal with stuff ponies couldn’t have a chance against in raw power.
 
But the problem is this isn’t a guy you can beat with versatility.  
You either dish out enough damage to wipe out countries/planets, or you can’t win.
 
Now, Im not sure if its actually the case in the fic but, if you actually told me that while Godzilla retained some of his offensive power, the fact that he’s now in a pony’s body means his durability/regeneration is taken out of the equation (thus, making him as vulnerable as any other pony), then that’s a different thing altogether. Luna’d still be in for the battle of her life, but she wouldn’t be in an impossible scenario anymore.
 
(Btw, I don’t know about Jojo, but in One Piece, most of the top tiers DO have abilities greatly geared towards violence.)

Yes, that’s actually an example of what Im saying.  
NMM is on “evil” mode, she’s arguably stronger than normal Luna, and she didn’t want anyone to interfere with her plans. Yet, instead of just attacking Twilight and company, she kept setting tricks and traps for them, using the versatility I was talking about.
 
And it can’t even be blamed on context.  
That’s direct proof that the sisters don’t possess some kind of overwhelming destructive power like the fanbase often likes to believe. The magic beams NMM attacked Celestia with during the flashback, are most likely the highest level of “offensive” magic known to ponykind. Which, by itself makes this battle impossible for Luna to deal with since BigG is known for taking damage from nothing but the most devastating and ridiculous attacks.

@Background Pony #C896 Well, most of the top tier powers in Jojo and One Piece aren’t geared towards violence either, but they still manage to find inventive ways to rub people out with them! Or at least annoy the piss out of them in combat.

Meh. The sisters have always been hyped by the fanbase far too much. Being called gods was always going too far, but I really don’t see why are they considered SO powerful in the first place. I mean, ok, they’re supposed to be the most powerful magic-users in Equestria, but imo nowhere near the ridiculous extent the fanbase assumes them to be.
 
I think its been pretty clear so far that pony magic is more about the versatility than an actual destructive potential. That’s why they have things like the Elements of Harmony or the Crystal Heart. As its been said earlier, I don’t believe they’re supposed to be seen as invincible, and I think that, for example, an adult dragon would be out of their reach.
 
The whole thing is about it is how they find creative solutions for such threats, such as Twilight’s handling of the Ursa Minor. Aside from the standard magic beam, their magic just doesn’t seem to be geared towards violence, which makes it more interesting.

No way in hell Luna has a chance here.  
The “demigod” thing is pure fanon.

if this were the steaming Godzilla, Luna would be screwed over faster than she can move (either through the meltdown or his super-nuke beam)

-If we go by the comics, then becoming NMM isn’t really all her doing. No big change.  
-I doubt creating illusions in cool outfits would help her against this opponent.  
-Becoming mist was one of NMM’s powers. Luna hasn’t been shown to do that.  
-Causing weather changes when angry is her biggest feat, yet no use in a real fight.
 
-Finally, the moon-raising thing is one big non factor for her (and Celestia) since it has nothing to do with any “divine” powers. Its because of their Cutie-Marks. Nothing more, nothing else. Twilight said Shining Armor was the “only one” who could create such a big, powerful barrier (so not even the sisters can), which can be easily explained by his Cutie-Mark representing “protection”. Cutie-Marks can have a HUGE influence in a unicorn’s unique ability, allowing them to accomplish one specific spell/feat that not even the strongest “mages” can imitate, as it would take countless unicorns together to do it. But that doesn’t mean all his other abilities are on par/superior to the sister’s. Its the same. Celestia/Luna being able to raise the sun/moon doesn’t mean all their magic in general is “godlike”. That’s just their special talent, allowign them to do something others can’t.
 
Truth is, Celestia/Luna being “gods” (or even deities) is just pure fanon.  
And it doesn’t even have real basis.  
Heck, there’s even Faust’s claim that Celestia isn’t a god.
 
Personally, I doubt the sisters could take on even a dragon.  
Maybe together, but alone? Nah.  
Godzilla though? That’s pushing fanon WAY too far.

I meant feats in which she fights/shows fighting potential,anyway I doubt she actually lifts the moon(I mean physically lift it,she does have some bond with it) or changes the weather at a snap of a hand (because if the princesses can do that,why have the pegasi do it,also I don’t remember any Major weather changes such as rain or lightning storms)
 
The FiM does have a lot of spells which are oddly specific and I doubt her using those spells intelligently.

Well, actually she has a bigger set of spells.  
Such as morphing her shape. {Turning into Nightmare Moon during Nightmare Night}  
Duplication. {The Shadowbolts}  
Astral being {turning into a sort of magic mist}  
Substantial weather control {She quickly turned the weather to fit her mood during her fit on Nightmare Night}  
She can also fly and raise the moon.
 
So Luna has a bigger arsenal then ‘magic beams’.

Luna at the very least is a demigod. {If you don’t consider her a true god.} And does have substantial power and durability.
 
And Godzilla in pony form…I don’t know what to say.
