In “Games Ponies Play”, Shining Armor was the coach of the Crystal Empire team for the Equestrian Games. So he’ll almost certainly be in the episode about the games themselves.
I would have loved to see Shining Armor as well but I’m glad that we’re at least seeing Cadence get a supporting role in an episode for once.

Everything in this season is pointing to at least one ep about the Equestria Games to take place in the Crystal Empire, so there’s a strong chance he will be present there.
That’s a terrible idea for an episode theme.

Fair enough. I’m just a little worried that Shining Armor’s not going to show up in this season at all at this point. Then again, we’ve still got 11 episodes that we don’t know the summaries for yet… Or is it ten at this point? I can’t remember if we’ve actually got the summary for episode 16… I know we’ve got the title, though I can’t actually remember what it is at the moment…
I think the point here was that this to be “sistery” bonding (yes, they’re only sisters in law but the point stands) and Shining would have been a third wheel to that in the first place.
And then Discord happens.
There’s a lack of male characters interacting with each other.
Maybe that’d be a theme of an episode show, with the lesson being ‘men are useless, but at least they try their best’
He’s too busy fighting the Crystal nationalists.
I think Hunter S. Thompson actually played himself in the movie version… or rather, the character that was obviously himself in all but name.
