Than stating “Rainbow was being unloyal to her team, thus betraying her element” would be a legitimate prank. Just jumping in and calling her a “dick” is too vague for it to be assumed with dealing with the episode’s actual content. It also doesn’t help the argument when the only thing you have to say is “That character is a dick.”  
But you’re right, people should not be attacking other users for liking Derpy. They can say she is overrated (which I honestly think she kind of is), but when they start personal attacks on her fans, that is not ok.

I don’t think most of us who made comments about how Derpy was better than Rainbow were deliberately being mean. Most likely meant it in jest.
 
I mean, the one who called Rainbow a dick was probably referring to the same thing the others were: Despite being all, “Oo-rah! Ponyville forever!” at the beginning, she was willing to ditch her teammates for the sake of the Wonderbolts.
 
She made a big deal about being able to make up the slack, but when given a chance to hook up with a more capable team she left Bulk and Fluttershy be and went off to train with Spitfire and Fleetfoot.
 
This is a legitimate grievance with Rainbow. “Rainbow! You’re the one assuring everybody that even though those two aren’t the best fliers, you’re so damn good you’ll make up for them! Now you’re just gonna ditch them and dash (pun not intended) all their hopes? Not just Bulk and Flutters, but the rest of Ponyville too?”
 
The ones who started complaining about Derpy started out with something akin to, “Gah! More pandering! Derpy should just DIE already! You’re all dumb for liking her!” That was an attack on her popularity (and by extension, people who like her), rather than Derpy herself.

@turningpoint I still eagerly await the return of Winged Rarity. Preferably as Flutterpony.  
(actually, I wondered during the episode if Rainbow Dash could have solved both dilemmas by offering one of her teammates. Derpy being picked to replace Rainbow, but not being in the ‘loser team’ pretty much right there impliess she’s one of Ponyville’s more capable flyers. Even better than Raindrops. By offering one of her three teammates to the Wonderbolts they either would have been called on their bluff, or both teams would have had it easier qualifying, having enough bad/good flyers to even out their times.)

And I agree that the “Bronies like you” comment was rude and stupid. It wasn’t my intent to defend his actions, if that is what you think. My philosophy is that if you don’t like a pony, or a ship, don’t go to images of that character or ship and start bitching and complaining. If you don’t like Derpy, don’t actively seek out Derpy pictures just so you can complain about her. The same goes for Rainbow Dash, which is what a good deal of the commenters here were doing. Some of them had legitimate complaints, or made their comments in jest. But some came here just so they could be like “Rainbow Dash sucks. Derpy is SOOO MUCH BETTER!”

First of all, there are comments on this very image of Rainbow Dash being called a “dick” without anyone calling the people out.
 
Second of all, I don’t dislike Derpy at all. I am neutral on the whole stance. I just find it hypocritical how several commenters on this image insulted Dash, but when someone complains about Derpy, it suddenly warrants people’s attention. Take that as you will.

Alright, let us ponder this for a moment. If I say Rainbow Dash is an empty-headed arrogant jock, you, no doubt being a reasonable chap, end up saying you disagree with me because of thus and thus points. But let’s imagine that instead of dissing Rainbow Dash, I started with “Fans of Dash are total nitwits who are just as reckless and stupid as she is.” Now I’ve reached a whole new level of commentary retardation. Such a person is so unable to deal with which fictional characters are popular and which ones get flak that the decision is made to lash out at other fans for their taste. That is the idiocy to which I refer.

And I’m sure that what Millennial means is that if you want to complain about Derpy, okay, fine, it’s your right. The “first class idiot” thing refers to people who complain about Derpy simply because she’s popular.
 
For example, going, “Dammit, Derpy! How the heck could you drop an entire piano on Twilight like that?” would be fine. You’re legitimately irritated at how careless she was.
 
Going, “Oh, great. Here comes that retarded moron everybody likes for some dumb reason,” wouldn’t be, since it seems like you’re simply hating her simply for the fact a lot of people like her. It’s admittedly not a very big difference, but it’s there.

Part of the reason I remember why Derpy got popular is because a lot of the fandom felt they collectively developed her whole ‘muffin’ personality. When you called her ‘your Derpy’ you weren’t wrong. A lot of us feel she is OUR Derpy. She didn’t have a persona until after a bunch of stuff involving the fandom happened. It’s the same way Time Turner eventually got accepted as Doctor Whooves.
