They all have lots of other friends (Pinkie Pie is quite clearly shown to be friends with everypony in town), however the Mane 6 do share a special bond with each other that doesn’t really exist with anypony outside of their circle except for family members (including Spike). There’s no evidence that Derpy is close friends with any of them, and if Rainbow Dash’s interactions with her are any indication she’s more of a nuisance than anything else.

I find it amusing that you people seem to think that, just because there are only six Elements of Harmony, they’re only allowed to be friends with the other five.

Would be interesting if they did a what if in an alternate universe Equestria where Derpy is the “leader” of the Mane 6.
