Bragging rights as in
“Hey i have a skunk as a pet and not a boring dog or cat.”.
Not as
“Hey i have a skunk and paid a vet to cut up his backside.”.
It’s not so much ‘bragging rights’ as ‘I don’t want the damned thing to spray me’. Besides, a domestic animal in a good home has a fantastic life of luxury, and I think that’s worth having a couple of glands removed that they won’t even need in a domestic environment to begin with.
Alas you have to cut them up under the tail to get rid of those glands… guess it’s not more invasive than spaying of dogs/cats but it’s still it’s just cutting up an animal for some braging rights.
Skunks actually do make awesome pets if they’re destenched. They’re up there with rabbits and ferrets, if you spend the time with them they’re every bit as smart and affectionate as a cat.
