(know this is an old comment, but I was just reading them)

That actually makes more sense. With poison you should be OK as long as you don’t touch it (as long as it doesn’t evaporate into the air) but with lava, even ignoring the fact that whatever you are on will sink into the lava, being that close to it will still kill you.

Now that’s a good question. Could be something to do with the fact that lava is instantly recognizable as lethal, as well as being pretty awesome - I still consider volcanoes the most badass thing, pretty much.

Mind you, when I played the game in my youth, we just as often didn’t call the floor itself anything, we just made a rule of not touching it. And we simply called it “Don’t touch the floor!”

I’m rather curious as to why the general concencious is that the floor is lava. I mean think about it, you never hear a child saying “The floor is Quicksand”

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

While playing this game, my brother thought that it would be a good idea to jump onto a glass table.

He slashed his leg to the bone and completely severed the tendons in two of his toes.

Well, once upon a time our ancestors were monkeys and lived in trees, or very near them, mostly for protection from ground-bound predators. Not at all impossible that some of our fascination with climbing and staying off the ground is actually a form of genetic instinct to teach us the very skills we need to not get eaten by giant cats and wolves and what-have-you.

Duck - Quacks like a duck, takes bait like a fish

It’s so weird how everybody comes up with this game as a kid. You would almost think it was instinctual, but for what I don’t know.
