Despayre walks down the hallway of his palace to meet the three intruders
Twilight: King Despayre!
Applejack: Down ya go!
Despayre blocks the attacks and knocks AJ down
Despayre: Hahahahahaha! I hope you weren’t thinking of leaving too quicky, Twilight. I spent way too long trying to hunt you and your companions down. I will not let you get away from me now! Turns to the earth pony But, before I take you away for interrogation, I wanted to see for myself to see if the rumor was true. Even now, I can barely believe it…tell me, why did those pathetic princesses spare your life? Are you trying to seek vengeance against me?
???: I don’t understand what you mean? What are you talking about?
Despayre: Really? You still don’t know? Evil chuckle After all this time, you still haven’t figured it out? Evil laugh I do wonder how long you would’ve stayed blind to the cold hard truth before you? Surely, some of what you used to be must have surfaced by now. Even the combined power of the princesses could not keep your true identity away forever, could it?
The earth pony was slowly piecing the clues together, remembering the conversations he had previously
Twilight: We do not believe in executing our prisoners. No one should deserve a death sentence, not even Tirek himself
Celestia: Normally, we would not accept this request for training as you are too old, past the age requirement…but this is a special case…
Applejack: They say Magic can do terrible things to yer mind. It can easily wipe away yer memories and an’ destroy yer very identity…
Twilight: Appleloosa…The Everfree Forest…The Celestial Sea…The Arimaspi Territory…Sombra visited each of these locations for clues to reveal the hidden location where the power he needed to control his empire was…
Luna: The lure of the darkness is difficult to resist…I fear that this quest would lead you down a similar path that I went through…
Twilight: What better way of defeating your foes is there than to turn an enemy to your cause? To use their own power and knowledge against them!
Suddenly, the memories were flooding into the pony’s mind like water flowing into a newly dried up river. They were overwhelming him, he didn’t understand why it was happening…until it happened. His mind eventually showed a past image of himself, staring at his empire which he created. He turned around…
||
…and his current self was utterly shocked by the revelation: He was the King known as Sombra this whole time! ||
Despayre: So…it has finally hit you. You cannot hide who you once were, Sombra! Recognize that you were once The King…and know that I have taken your place!
Edited
And it turned out that the princesses revived Sombra cause he had information needed for the location of a hidden weapon inside his mind.
So rather than bring back the true Sombra, they used their magic to edit his mind and body so he would serve them instead as a regular earth pony.
Afterwards, the guy, taking Malak’s place, infiltrated the palace and took Sombra’s horn for himself, hoping to use it’s power for his own scheme of world domination.
Mind blown!
“Resume the bombardment commander. Wipe this pathetic country from the face of the planet!”
@Obsessive Rarity Fan
You guys have reminded me about why I love Obsidian so much.
And now my boner for Pillars of Eternity has gotten even bigger.
I think I need medical help.
Then you will have to make do with it
and Legacy of Kain out of nowhere
Are… Are you guys me?
”“If you seek to aid everyone that suffers in the galaxy, you will only weaken yourself… and weaken them. It is the internal struggles, when fought and won on their own, that yield the strongest rewards. You stole that struggle from them, cheapened it. If you care for others, then dispense with pity and sacrifice and recognize the value in letting them fight their own battles. And when they triumph, they will be even stronger for the victory.”
―Kreia
Kain: There’s a third option, a monumental secret hidden in your very presence here. But it’s a secret you have to discover for yourself. Unearth your destiny, Raziel. It’s all laid out for you here.
Raziel: You said it yourself, Kain… there are only two sides to your coin.
Kain: Apparently so, but suppose you throw a coin enough times… suppose one day, it lands on its edge.
…I love that last one!
Yeah.
Oh yes definitely, the character dynamics of that game as well as influence system were ahead of it’s time and made far more engaging play than it predecessor or many contemporary and preceding RPGs. The storyline too: so dark and mature, a complete deconstruction of the nature of the Force itself and if it was truly beneficial or even necessary for the Galaxy - it changed my entire opinion of the Star Wars Universe’s underpinning mythos
Regarding the “waifu” bit about Kreia, it’s not a physical attraction so much as an immense fascination and respect for her character and philosophy, an admiration that still sticks and inspires passion years after my last playthrough; there are few other fictional characters I’ve felt that strongly about (except Rarity, and Becky Sharp from the classic novel Vanity Fair). Sure she may be a spiteful and manipulative hag, but you gotta admit she had amazing insight and her thwarted plan to “kill” the Force was a squandered opportunity to level the playing field and bring an opportunity for lasting peace. Tell me, after all you learn by the end of the game was she really in the wrong?
Oh, and as for Malak, it amused me to no end that the only time anyone in the sequel ever brought him up was to rag on him for being a total moron.
Couldn’t agree more (except the whole waifu thing. Ewwwww). Something else I enjoyed was how your party members were constantly at each other’s throats. In most RPGs the party gets along way to well despite the usually diverse backgrounds they come from and the short amount of time they’ve had to know each other.
