Maybe this one was just an artificially created one. The Shadow Forces in the comics were all possessed by the Nightmare itself, maybe this one is the first pure version of the Nightmare Forces, one that doesn’t rely on a host.
But I personally won’t mind seeing Nightmare Rarity in the show. But I can also understand some won’t enjoy it.
Can’t please everyone, and I’m anxious to see just how season 4 pans out.
So far according what i have seen the nightmare rarity arc is set somewhere during Season 3, most likely after Magic Duel and Wonderbolt academy due to Trixie being nice and Lighting Dust at the background.
Shadow Pony’s been in the old castle for a thousand years, If it is a nightmare creature created from Nightmare Moon’s power, I’d haphazard a guess it wasn’t purified like the rest.
Or if it does have a fancy magic key, it might have been protected somehow.
The only problem I had with the Nightmare Rarity arc was that it basically made Luna a victim when we were led to believe it was all her. Other than that I thought it was great.
The IDW comic releases aren’t perfectly synchronized with the pony episodes. As I enjoyed the Nightmare Rarity comic, I hope Season 4 will feature it. But there are a lot of other brony who did not enjoy it or had other mixed feelings about how the comic presented the story…. So who knows what will happen?
I just hope it’s this season and we don’t have to wait until S5.
Probably has one of the most likely fancy keys to the box.
