I get what you’re saying,
but my impression is that Luna’s the one who’s even more into ‘honor and duty’ than Celestia.
So I feel like this was Celestia trying to reach out for that part of her sister.

I appreciated they showed her crying when she banished Luna. I do think they should’ve showed her reaction after banishing her and that would have sealed how hard it was to do that.

For the “not showing weakness” part, I think they should’ve given her line a better delivery to see past the Princess mask for once.

We kind of did get that, when she was blasting NMM she shed a tear to show she was in despair about losing her sister, she was not going to show weakness when she was trying to get Luna/NMM to stand down here because that would of giving more reason to fight Celestia and not do what she says.

Sure you can interpenetrate it as you want but the tear was there and that was how we saw the real feelings of Celestia in the moment.

I really love Celestia and Luna. I was hoping that we got more than a flashback when she banished her sister. The part where she demanded Luna to lower the moon felt wrong. It should’ve been a defining character moment where we see Celestia in despair about losing her sister and trying so hard to get through to her.

But instead we got Celestia talking to Luna about her “duty” then jumping for the EOH when she got hit.

Just amazing that before she unleashed the Elements of Harmony on Nightmare Moon, Celestia tried to reach her little sister, hoping she was still there somewhere inside Nightmare’s body.

If Luna was still there, she would’ve heard her sister’s pleas to fight her Dark Side, and maybe been able to take control, even if she remained physically as Nightmare Moon.
