Yeah, I understand.
It was just a little bit of a surprise when I first heard about the meme. That’s all. Plus, I was just getting into Madoka Magica at that time. I watched the series and looked up more info on it, and most of my searches for Mami Tomoe related to the Headless Mami meme.
Comedy comes from tragedy.
And the jokes didn’t come from the first watching. It’s not like we saw the scene and thought “hey this will be funny”. The jokes came later after we realize we could make head puns. And most tragic moments in other stuff also have parodies.
We also have 9/11 and Holocaust jokes.
I see. I actually did get a laugh from some fanart related to the meme. I guess it’s just that the possibility for a joke isn’t something I would have imagined after watching that scene for the first, second or even fifth time. Same thing with the ‘we have no choice but to die’ scene. That also has comedic fanart, despite how sad the scene itself is.
Actually the show having a dark tone is what fuels the need for more jokes like that.
If the show was already funny there wouldn’t be a need to make jokes.
Like NightJack said. It’s a form of coping mechanism. I joke about Mami’s on a daily basis to the point that when I met her English voice actress I spoke to her in nothing but head puns for 3 days. Yet the episode makes me tear up every time.
*tone
Nope, having a dark tome actually doesn’t stop it.
Gen Urobuchi also was the writer to Kamen Rider Gaim and fan of it latch on to jokes about likable characters that had some dark shit happen to them, a big joke of the show is misleading if you don’t know anything of what happens, the heroes are “fruit samurai”.
I just thought that given how dark the tone of Madoka Magica is that jokes like these would be less common.
Now if she had been a real person the jokes would not of happened so soon by most people, only a-holes would do it so soon to a real person, if at all.
But being fictional the joke would come right away from people that liked her.
You don’t understand Human nature very well then, humor is a common coping mechanism, and her death was grotesque so the jokes come from how people like her and that happened.
I love Madoka Magica so much, but still.
except she can put her’s back…. maybe……as it’s not digested.
’Cause I thought for a moment there they were Polio Crutches from the Thumbnail….
Haha! Victory!

Or alternatively, Don’t lose your head.
Hey hey. Keep it coolheaded.
Different note, I always think those two are a perfect match whenever I see this crossover.

Beat me to it.
Not for long though.
