Magic education, of course, although Rarity doesn’t seem to have left Ponyville at any point, although she probably found etiquette classes somewhere.
Same place that she got that accent, I guess.
It does make sense.
Even though she’s not a mage, she’s obviously very skilled at telekinesis, and it makes perfect sense, she’s an artist, therefore she needs to be able to operate many things at once with precision. She also made some pretty complex illusions and light shows, which again make sense since she uses them for presentation.
Did you just say that Rarity, one of the most cultured ponies, is uneducated? Or are you reffering to magical education?”
And Trixie is a stage performer. Having only a few flashy tricks makes sense.
Trixie might have shown more as a main character… Or she could be like Rarity and use only a few tricks. Trixie was established as a big talker rather than a powerhouse, after all.
Problem with Rarity is that it doesnt really make sense for her to know much magic. I feel that her being a protagonist makes the writers feel like they have to give her magic just cause shes a unicorn, when in-show its said that unicorns specifically only have a little bit of magic to help with their specific talent.
Im pretty sure Trixie still knows more though, and theres probably more she hasnt shown, but in the end of it all. This is MLP - its not Avatar, its not written as well/as consistently with respects to power. Twilight is often more or less powerful than herself depending on the writer.
And lets be honest, if Trixie was a protagonist she would have done way way more with her own magic by now. Just because thats what would have been fun on the screen.
TLDR - We kinda just have to shrug our shoulders when comparing ponies to one another and go with what makes more sense considering their backgrounds - rather than what is actually shown in show.
And? It was still made as part of season three. We don’t know how much was altered between when Lauren looked at and when it was aired. We don’t even know if the original story was written under the idea that Trixie attended a magic school or if the original version had her as a talented vagabond.
Until it is confirmed or denied on the show, it’s just hearsay, because the writers are perfectly capable of changing their minds about it.
We don’t even know if Lauren Faust would have kept that bit of characterization if she had stayed on. She may have eventually changed her mind and decided that making Trixie self-taught was more interesting.
Magic Duel was written as a season 2 episode.
Above average, yeah, but that’s about it. Trixie’s big trick seems to be that fireworks display of hers, the one that she uses to make pictures. Aside from that, she can summon a storm cloud, and the rest of her tricks are just levitation and transmutation.
If I remember correctly, Trixie has about the same amount of shown spells as Rarity. Now, we’ve had longer to see Rarity’s spell list, but Trixie ran dry pretty quickly when she was confronted with the ursa minor. If she has anything else, it doesn’t pack any more of bang.
I was in that thread. It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood
That doesn’t make a lot of sense. Lauren Faust wasn’t involved with the show by the time of Trixie’s most recent appearance, so any and all backstory that she wrote could have been dumped. She’s not the writer any more. She doesn’t know what’s going on backstage. By her own admission, nothing that she says has weight at this point.
It should be assumed rumor until we have reason to think that it is accurate. Just like any other pronouncement from the writers.
Besides, even if Trixie was, we have no idea of whether or not she was any good, or even if she graduated. Her inability to find a new job outside of rock farming speaks badly of her educational history.
Speaks badly of even attending a high-end school like Celestia’s is implied to be, when you get down to it. The show has presented Trixie as only slightly above average, at best.
Trixie’s performed more magic than Rarity I think. As a magician she seems to be at least above average.
It stays until the show establishes otherwise.
That’s also something that never made it into the show, and Faust didn’t say it until well after she left. Even if it was in the series bible, it might not have stayed.
It’s unconfirmed, at best.
