Even the guy who created the gif format said it’s supposed to be pronounced like “jif”. HOWEVER, considering that it’s short for “graphics interchange format”, and “graphics” starts with a hard “g” sound, the “jif” pronunciation doesn’t make any sense.

Which is why people will continue to say “gif”, not “jif”.

When I first saw the word, I thought it was spoken ‘me-me’. When I actually heard the word spoken, I was like, ‘Huh. So… it’s said like that. That’s kinda stupid. I prefer my way.”

Now I’m just used to it being ‘meem’. (shrug)

I’ve heard people pronounce it like ten different ways. I’ve heard may-may, me-me, one guy pronounced it “may-me”. I could correct them, but how much of an asshole internet snob would I look like?

Ross is a star of Steam Train, a webshow in which he and Danny Sexbang play video games. He’s normally the scapegoat of the two, and normally, his silly antics get a very simple phrase: Goddamnit Ross!
