I think the OP’s exaggerating. While the Digimon s1 and s2 dubs were pretty… hokey (for lack of a harsher term) it wasn’t all that dumbed down from the original like G3 compared to G4.

Id say Digimon Young Hunters Through time is the true G3 of digimon. So much filler they didn’t leave any time to write a finale beyond stuffing it with lame twists and having the idiot lead stumble through using his super idiot powers to avoid learning anything at all.

About Reapermon, he’s a case where a name change may be a good thing, his real name is Gokumon  
As for Lilithmon’s name and even Baalmon’s, that’s Saban, Bandai did put out the Data Digimon World Data Squad where Lilithmon had the proper name, but Saban want to “play iot safe” and not have the names of demons in the show.

I really hate the Xros Wars dub, for one thing it shouldn’t have no changes to the script (it’s 2013 for crying out loud)
 
but what really pisses me off is digimon name changes of Digimon previously established in english
 
AncientVolcamon has become Volcanomon…Lilithmon is Laylamon (which her name has already been established as Lilithmon in the US)…Chibikamemon has been turned to Chibitortomon, so many things wrong with that name
 
but one of the things that gets me is Baalmon’s name…they changed it to Reapmon when we already have a named Reapermon, and we know it’s suppose to be the same name
 
I don’t think Sabam, Bandai, or whoever really cares

Frontier’s dub was okay but it was very lacking for a digimon season, and as I said, cheesy can be good, so season 1 was good for that.
