There is a reason why Trixie has a vendetta against Twilight and her friends in Turnabout Storm, but we never learn what it is. When Twilight tries asking what makes her so upset, Trixie has a set of dark psyche-locks, so it is something she won’t admit to anyone and lies deeper than mere jealousy. For all we know, her reason could be perfectly understandable, even if it isn’t right to take her anger out on Rainbow Dash.
I stopped reading fics before S3 started, but before then I was heavily into fics (would read while on the exercise bike for an hour after work; good for the body, terrible for the mind); the volume of jerk-trixie to woobie-trixie was far in favor of the jerk side. Ship fics and some larger adventure fics featuring her got more attention, but quick one-offs or short fics with her as the token antagonist or idiot evil villain / cannon fodder were far more popular in number.
Now-a-days I don’t really know what it’s like. I’d guess after Magic Duel it’s a bit like Luna after S1; mostly misunderstood and lonely, with a few die-hards that play the “I LIED, STILL EVIL AND HATE TWILIGHT” card.
Thanks for the clarification, and the confirmation why I don’t pay much attention to most fanon interpretations. I’d known about Trixie apologists, but didn’t know there were that many people running her full throttle the other direction.
@Dr Outback
Her line about getting an angry mob when she tries to entertain with magic made me wonder if they had fallen into the trap of making her incompetent and run out of town after every performance; glad to hear they didn’t do that, at least.
Oh, canon Trixie is pretty jerkish all right, but I mean the fanon that randomly drops her in nearly any story to be a token antagonist hell-bent on ruining everyone’e lives “just because”. Like, crushes puppies’ skulls in while cackling-levels of “jerk”.
This video-fic was that. A world where Trixie would want to ruin random people’s lives for no good reason at all. In canon they had to submit her to demonic possession just to have her kick Twilight out of town and bully some people around. Fandom pre-MD jerk-Trixie was far worse than that on her own.
She was pretty competent. She was one of the main antagonists. She was more tsundere (especially this episode) than a straight up jerk.
Actually, Trixie was a jerk before the end of “Magic Duel” (and, I suspect, still something of one even afterwards); it’s the victimized, misunderstood Trixie that’s the fandom-wank. Granted, I haven’t seen the videos, but judging just on this screenshot it does seem the creators of the video did make Trixie even more of a jerk than she really was, and maybe incompetent to boot.
This whole thing takes place in a world where Magic Duel didn’t happen. The author based his Trixie on a misconcepted pre-MD fandom-wank face-value jerk/idiot Trixie, fucking pinecone and all.
Yes she did, did you even watch Magic Duel?
Damn it, I hate how some people use Trixie in fics (or video-fics, in this case).
Wha?
Leaving it there was a part of the joke
