My headcanons can’t take this much fuel!
While nothing special, I don’t think the high school aspect in EQG was done too badly or too cliche (save for Flash mostly). The “winning the prom” was done to stop Sunset from wrecking havoc on Equestria and not as vapid as it would’ve been otherwise.
@Niggoslav_Krawczyk
I rest my case. Tropes and formulae don’t make or break the story, it’s the skillful use of tropes and other storytelling tools that does that. Above and beyond even that principle, there’s just no accounting for individual tastes, as the saying goes.
Emma is a bit dry at times, but ultimately quite entertaining and more than a little satirical.
In a roundabout way, I think you’re unknowingly arguing my point. It is not so much what we do or don’t expect from a tale, especially since what is considered “predictable” varies from person to person.
You see, in most of the movies and television shows we watch, we understand from the beginning that the heroes will probably win, and the jerks and villains will come to some ruin. That fact does not by its nature detract from our enjoyment automatically, nor does the inversion of it guarantee a good story by any means.
In the end, your highly subjective criterion for quality is not unpredictability, but merely whether or not you think the events portrayed are “boring.” Let’s not forget such works as Jane Austen’s, when we talk about that. One person’s boring is another’s enthralling.
Best part of the gala was the ending though. Celestia pretty much confirms that it usually DOES go the way we (and they) expected the gala to go. She invited the mane 6 because she wanted to make a ‘fractured fairy tale’ because it’s normally so boring.
I know I did.
That’s a pretty subjective statement, many if not the majority of people on this site would say they liked it.
Well look I disliked the concept from the very beginning, but… if they were going to go there, there’s just so much better stuff they could have done with it
I’m mostly disappointed that Sunset Shimmer really wasn’t bitchy enough. She supposed to be the popular queen bee, but her minions are two kids half her age what the shit
anyway I’m not going to go into a big old rant about the wasted potential of that movie
Your brain is what’s out in space.
Last I heard of someone falling off the planet, they were already in space.
In that case, your opinion is the wrong one.
That is your opinion, and I think you are mistaken. I say it was a good movie.
Well whatever your view on the movie ,you can’t deny that it expanded the potential of the fandom ,especially in it humanization factor(obviously) but I felt that it greaterd the connection between fan and pony because it’s wasn’t just a fantasy world now,it now had a font in a “familiar”setting which though yes you could say is controversial ,it still in my no doubt to be contrasted opinion gave a great connection(a subtle one) to the fandom.
wasn’t.
Okay, but you still can’t say that the whole high school setting isn’t VASTLY more cliche than anything in MLP.
I mean, for god’s sake, the whole “Winning the Prom” thing has been used in every high-school movie since the 1960s.
I didn’t read any spoilers about the movie. Like you said, there was a formula. I’d seen it enough times to predict it point-for-point.
