Exactly. Personally, I feel like their methods in some arenas have drifted a bit. In season one, for example, the songs were well-integrated with the story, but in S3, they were thrown in almost arbitrarily, like Twilight’s Failure Song.

I think Season fleshed the characters out the best, without flanderizing them or making them unlikable. The first half of Season 2 managed that as well, but then that subsided a little.  
And then it susided a little more in Season 3.

I have to disagree.Even thought I think there were good episodes in season 3,for me it has to go like:
 
Season 1 > Season 2 > Season 3.

I felt that season three was better than season one and only fell short of season two in that it had half as many episodes.

The ‘big’ writers fared poorly, and not just because of a shortened season. But the newcomers acquitted themselves well. Probably because they were preoccupied with that girlygirl highschool BS and forcing ahead Twilicorn at Hasbro’s behest.

I don’t see the decline that you do. I think people make seasons one and two out to be better than they were and judge season three too harshly, but if they take away Twilight’s wings or have Luna become evil again I’ll agree that the show is over the hill.

IMO, Most of the flaws in Season 3 can be attributed to the shorter season making the worse episodes be more noticeable compared to the season as a whole. Wonderbolts Academy, One Bad Apple, Magic Duel, Sleepless in Ponyville, and Keep Calm and Flutter on were all great, and that’s nearly half the entire season.

The writing is already in decline, and now they have another mandatory toy angle to work around. Somehow I have this weird idea that may impact a few things.

I can understand being wary of the change, but going back to the status quo I think is the worst thing they could do. It would only validate every one who said that it was just toy bait. What they need to do is show that they can tell good stories with princess Twilight.

Seeing S3 as a whole, that’s not really an opinion I can have, and EqD only ensure that it doesn’t change. So now I get the Yahtzee approach to things and remain pessimistic, hopefully to be surprised but not holding my breath.

Eh, the episode synopses are generally written by marketers, so they kind of have to force it if they want it to sell.
