She could, yes, but she can also do so while being the support.
The point is simply that her role could very easily be that of Rise’s.
Also, just to throw it out there, her Pinkie Sense would be a good match for Rise’s ability for stuff like warning them about an enemy’s location, abilities, threat level, etc.
I see her more as doing that while IN the fight.
Actually, Pinkie being in Rise’s position is very easy to see. What with the whole making funny comments about everything that happens during battle, cheering her friends up when they’re hit, congratulating them when they dodge, etc. I dunno, it works just fine.
Makes sense to me. Pinkie has an ESP(in the strictest sense) of sorts, and as such her Persona would have ESP-like abilities, making it unsuitable for combat.
Well I can’’t really see Pinkie staying back and not being in the fight, but look who she is here.

Applejack is not a violent pony. Rarity seems to be, though.
And AJ is known for apple bucking, she does that mostly with her back legs, as in a kick.
AJ uses her back legs more so that would be the legs of a human.
Also you can’t pull the “no arms” argument on humanized image, they have arms in them.
And ponies have 4 legs, no arms.
