My Little Pony n Friends: S1 E18 The Glass Princess (part 3)
Shrawk has manipulated Princess Porcina into transforming all of Dream Valley - even all life - into shiny glass, which the bird creatures desire as much as any treasure.
Yellow Raptorian: “We did it, boss! We did it!”
Brown Raptorian: “Pony land is ours!”
Shrawk:“At last, a kingdom to call home!”
Raptorians: “HEHEHEHEHAHAHAHAHOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHEHEHEHEHAHAHAH!!!!”

There are multiple villains in G1’s Dream Valley that could be considered shadow demons or even elder gods, Cthulhu style. Certainly the immortal octopus guy, at least.
And let’s not forget Grogar (who was banished to the shadow world)
and the Shadows in the comic. (The ones that had corrupted the moon creatures, Luna, and did the same to Rarity)
I’m getting the vibe that this ‘Shadow World’ is similar to the warp that the chaos gods abide in.
I doubt there is a ‘Shadow’ god, but more of a place filled with horrors and demons.
Both Tirek and Nightmare Moon could have been ‘shadow’ daemon prince/princess.
They even both call it ‘The Night That Never Ends’.
It really creeped me out when Nightmare Moon first said it, thought she knew of Tirek.
Now that I think about it, both Nightmare Moon and Tirek had the same agenda. {Eternal Night.}
He did, Discord was pretty nasty.
I’d consider the average G4 and G1 villains roughly equal in terms of nastiness, really.
But didn’t Discord ‘discord’ the other main six and watched (and laughed) as they broke Twilight down?
Which is to say, they were forced to repair the cloak before Dream Valley became glass… so they are partially responsible too.
It’s not the whole world, just Dream Valley, the pony’s territory. These bird-weasels are kind of silly and bird-brained at times, but they make up for it with being manipulative and cruel.
They even forced three of the ponies to repair the magical cloak that caused this magical (though reversible) genocide, and made sure the poor mares knew about it too…
How so?
From what I’ve seen of G1, the villains get more characterization than they do in FiM.
Oh….Still. A world of glass. They obviously didn’t think that far ahead.
{Also I’ve noticed in these comments that some believe g1 villains to be better…Really?}
No, they just love the shiny quality of glass, they consider it treasure, like some birds do.
Heavy cliffhangers are somewhat common in MLP ‘n Friends, but it’s a serialized fantasy action-adventure show with more two- and four-parters than single episode stories, so it makes sense.
Oh… shit…
It would be a season finale. They would make us wait seven months for the conclusion.
Which is odd, considering how narrative has evolved in cartoons since G1.
These guys are insanely greedy, and kind of xenophobic, so this is a good deal for them.
