But in the end it’s still limited in its capacity to induce change. A typical epigenetic change like phosphorylation of a particular chromatin residue might enhance or reduce expression of a particular trait, but it can never generate entirely new traits. That requires mutation - which, unlike epigenetics, is not directed by an organism’s life experiences, but only passed on or not based on the organism’s reproductive success.
But the epigenetic configuration changes based on the organism’s experience, which is then passed down to its offsprings. The foundational principle of Lamarck’s idea is true, which is why I said ’in a way.

Not really. Epigenetics is really just a massive collection of on-off switches on genes which are produced and modified through evolution. Epigenetic changes can be inherited within a species, but can never lead to speciation on their own.
