i bet someone on youtube uploaded a video on them taking 999% damage in all the games and that person still got the KO.
Not really if you use them strategically, along with the “dodging” ability. (Dodging is something I find rather fun to do.) If you don’t use shields at all, you’re likely going to take damage, no matter how good you are.
Umvc3 Is worse in my opinion because It doesn’t matter if you know how too play you will still get bodied by Top Tier characters like Zero and Vergil.

Shields are for weaklings.
Same, I never could understand memorizing the complicated button presses, or combo systems. In “Killer Instinct” my friend could get 36-hit combos, and defeat me in 2 seconds, before I have a chance to do anything.
I think that’s why I prefer Smash Bros., ‘cause you actually have a chance in that game, and the controls are simpler. (Though, surprisingly I still know people who can’t figure out how to play that game, or know how to do certain things like use shields.)
If only I were so diligent.
