Description
Initially it was supposed to be a solid text comparison and all but i couldn’t come with something nice enough so i’ll trust in your knowledge, by look, none of the characters seem to match in personality, but if you watched Yu Yu Hakusho, your mind will certainly be blown.

If Celestia plays Koenma, then who does Luna play?
Truth is I did read your posts, but they were all incredibly flimsy justification to put Twilight in the role of main character. It’s as insipid as all those people who put Twilight as Ichigo and RD as Rukia instead of the other way around, which makes perfect sense.
Twilight already knew an enormous amount of magic and power from proper instruction when the series started, like Kurama from his past self, while RD was still figuring out who she was but had to break certain physical and mental limits to get stronger, like the Sonic Rainboom. Shinobu could easily refur to Lightning Dust, and Koenma could easily refur to as Spitfire. Since Yusuke was never actually taught anything by Koenma, nor would Twilight constantly undermine Koenma’s authority, that connection is lost there too.
Lightning Dust, while hasn’t decided to go anti-hero or villain yet, at least has a persona to her actions. She has an ideology…all weaklings on their side are expendable, only the strong should decide who are the real heroes…very similar to Shinobu’s expenditure of the 7 and his respect for Yusuke once he became a demon.
Sunset Shimmer has no actual personality beyond being a villain for the sake of being a villain. Her very life of going into the human world where she was powerless was based on a movie contrivance that assumed the element of magic would even be there, and that Celestia would teach/let a power mad student learn how to become a demon and NOT go after her.
By ‘what they do’ is so vague, you limited to pretty much every character with a teacher and a former student of the teacher who’s fallen to the darkside ever.
You could honeslty fit Twilight as Botan infinitely better since Botan is the one who wants to do things by the book and by orders but is still incredibly awkward about it.
Twilight’s role in MLP is to get strong by doing pretty much everything Celestia/Genkai has to say. That is not how it happens.
Rainbow Dash’s role is to break all the contemporary rules, train hard but in his own way when taught, and do feats of amazing power while collecting a large group of loyal rival friends(Applejack/Kuwabara), passive intelligent friends(Twilight/Kurama) and anti-heroes who hate/like him (Gilda/Hiei).
Even by your definition, RD still takes the role.
Thank you, i wouldn’t have the same patience to reply someone who didn’t even bothered reading the description or any of my posts.
It’s more about what they do than their personalities.
While I agree that Dash would do a good shonen MC,that’s not very much the point of this. You are strictly talking about adhering to stereotypes, while OP doesn’t do that much.
It’s not simply like it’s Twilight = Yusuke.
For example Light Yagami and Yoh Asakura are characters that do not follow the typical shonen main character, yet they are the main characters in their respective series.
It’s basically something among the lines of:
Twilight/Yusuke = Main characters, current magical student / spiritual detectives with lots of potential.
Sunset/Sensui = Fallen Student / detective who ran away.
Celestia/Koenma = both are high authorities and in charge of giving orders to their MCs.
Do fans just not get the memo that RD fits the role of shonen main character more then Twilight?
I think Genkai would say something like that.
>I’m not totally sure of what Yusuke learned in the “Kidnapped Yusuke” arc, can you refresh my mind?
I don’t remember a lot myself either, but it was something among the lines of “his eyes changed, that’s the look of someone who has been through a lot of things, despite being just a kid”.
It was even pointed out by a character,I don’t remember who though.
I think I might being mistaken with the arc when that happened, but I’m sure it did happen.
I know right?
I’m not totally sure of what Yusuke learned in the “Kidnapped Yusuke” arc, can you refresh my mind?
Yeah Genkai had some deserved spotlight at least, i liked Botan as well, it’s a pity she became just another gag in the random girl bunch.
What’s a Keiko indeed lol
I’ve heard about it from some people, i did watched the pilot but since the old series got cancelled i decided to wait for the 2011 version to get finished, so i can chose if i’ll watch it.
Well let’s just hope he learned something since his last work…>.>
This.
Hiei,Kurama and Yusuke did receive development, but it was so minuscule It felt they were pretty much the same characters from the beginning until the end.Well, with Yusuke you can somewhat tell he learned something in the beginning of the Sensui arc.
And oh,wow, don’t get me stared on the female characters.
Botan was my favorite character along with Genkai, but she was so quickly forgotten. At least Genkai had an important role in the Toguro saga.
And Keiko? What’s a Keiko?
I wholeheartedly agree with the whole developing antagonists better than the good guys.
Have you seen Hunter x Hunter?
It’s from the same author.
He had somewhat the same characteristics with the 4 main characters but I stopped reading it some point years ago because the scanlations were freaking taking too long.
I wonder if he development them further…
Yes, exactly why he was my favorite, he is actually the only character with solid development, and maybe Koenma got some Hidden Depth in his fake form but that’s it, most of the characters, especially females are just…there.
They tried to give the “Trio” some backstories in the last arc which was nice, but the thing is: They barely ever change, they are extremely stuck in stereotypes, especially Hiei with the annoying “I’m cool, fuck you”, Kuwabara is the only one you actually see growing from a delinquent to a great person.
Not that i don’t like the show but they’re better developing antagonists than “good guys”.
Oddly enough he was one of my favorites too.
I hated he he was basically absent in the last arc,but then he pretty much had a develompent of his own in the end and it kinda made up fr it.
Kinda.
I don’t know how it was handled in the manga, but he pretty much decided to stop being some stereotypical shonen hero and started to seriously think about his future and work hard for it.
While Yusuke was all “Fight, fight, fight” then Noodle Shop.
Kuwabara was my favorite, god damn it.
My goodness,Kuwabara = Applejack makes…sense.
mmmmmmmmmh Rarity don’t have an episode in the last season and got butterfly wings some time ago so I chose her.
Well Kuwabara doesn’t, that means one pony won’t and will be forgotten in the last season.
We ALL know what Yu Yu character Trixie is, brah.
Yeah i just usually use that word for “going evil”.
Isn’t that Sensui became corrupted, instead he became crazy after having to watch too many horrible things, capping it with that orgy where a lot of wealthy humans were torturing halpless demons and bathing on their blood.
He basically lost his marbles after understanding that the humans he was risking his life to protect were even worse than the demons he fought for humanity’s sake.
Thanks, if only i got to read that before lol
@Number1pegasus
It’s also creepy that i missed the n.
