Judging from some of the other tweets she’s responded to, it sounds like those so-called moving moments will relate to Spike’s “friendshipping” with Rarity, which is hardly a relationship I find very touching. Regardless, the fact remains that statements like the one above are singling Rainbow out for something particularly significant. When I weigh that statement against VA comments about my favorite character, such as “A lot of funny stuff happens to her,” I don’t feel particularly encouraged.
So, your problem with her is that she’s saying only Rainbow Dash gets “feels” and Cathy Weseluck’s characters are restricted to “giggles”?
Did you miss this tweet?
That tweet just compounds the issue I’m annoyed with here. With Dash, we’re apparently going to receive some supposedly evocative, emotional content, which evidently stands out so much to McCarthy that she says it gives her “feels”. I’m already underwhelmed by the “feels” they attempted to give us in that Scootaloo episode, and in Wonderbolts Academy, which Dash fans continue to erroneously use as a glowing example of her character. And what do the other characters get? Giggles?
I guess this means she’s slighting the performances of the other voice actors?
…
Because this statement inherently seems to indicate that the other main characters were not taken to “places” that she found as moving.
Why?
Immortality blues you say? Well, have I got a movie you should see before trying to argue the ramifications of immortality:
You. I like you.
Willing to admit that a character has flaws, but not being a dick about it, and being willing to show that the character has redemptive qualities overall.
Willing to give up the instant fulfillment of her life’s ambition to join an aerial display team, for friends she’d just made days before. Second part of the series premiere, check.
Willing to face a dragon, alone, to protect Ponyville. Dragonshy, check.
Unable to break the sonic rainbarrier for herself, but able to do it for Rarity, even after Rarity treated her like crap in her time of greatest need. Sonic Rainboom, check.
Willing to stop bullies from abusing Fluttershy, an older filly it’s clear she barely knew at the time. Cutie Mark Chronicles, check.
Didn’t quite get what a pet was at first, but by the end of the episode did choose a pet for love over coolness. May The Best Pet Win, check.
Mysterious Mare Do Well. …Okay, she’s largely a jerk in that one ep. But less of one than her friends. (And less of one than Rarity was to her in Sonic Rainboom, given basically the same motivation for each. Namely, getting addicted to the sudden admiration of all the other ponies.)
Clearly concerned about Fluttershy’s depression, and willing to let her out of her Pegasus duties once it’s clear how upset she is. Hurricane Fluttershy, check. (In fairness, she did lay on the guilt pretty heavily at first, but she stopped when it became obvious that Fluttershy was truly upset and not just being shy about things.) Between the end of Best Pet, and this ep, her jerkiness in the beginning of Best Pet, and throughout Mare Do Well before it, was more than redeemed by this point.
Willing to go easy on Fluttershy in the joust (at least somewhat) despite her natural competitiveness. The Crystal Empire, check.
Saved Scootaloo’s life. (Despite her earplugs, the only one to hear Scootaloo’s screams.) And once Scootaloo finally admitted how much she wanted to be taken under Rainbow Dash’s wing, she did it instantly. Being dense and not seeing through Scootaloo’s deliberate attempts to hide her feelings for Dash wasn’t being a jerk on Dash’s part, just her normal lack of empathy. Sleepless in Ponyville, check.
Clearly concerned for her classmates’ well-being, even while stewing over her own wingpony status. And nearly breaking the sonic rainbarrier again, this time in a narrow cave(!), to save her friends. Wonderbolts Academy, check.
Concerned about the feelings of crystal ponies she doesn’t even know, should they fail to get the nod for the Games venue. (In fairness, probably projecting herself more than understanding the actual feelings of the actual crystal ponies. But still, doing what she thinks would make those ponies happiest.) Games Ponies Play, check.
Able to restore Rarity’s memory with her friendship. Magical Mystery Cure, check.
So, not the most polite pony. But outside of one and a half eps in Season 2, never really a jerk either.
Pretty princess: no. I don’t see how she is a pretty princess…
Superhero things: what’s wrong about it?
Pretty princess and superhero things are bullshit. Only possibility for this things - they may be tolerable bullshit.
Not bullshit, pretty bland but not bullshit, not boring. There are a lot of possibilities and potential in here, so don’t say that everything is bullshit if you didn’t see any of these episodes
Well judging by the way they behaved towards her in Equestria Girls that does not seem like the case, as for the other supporting cast members ( that Cakes, the rest of the Apple Family, the Mayor, etc. ) we will have to wait and see.
Also we as a fanbase have only ASSUME that Alicorns are immortal/live long lives, however with the introduction of the age spell in Se3 that brings the whole thing into question.
I would not be surprised if in Se4 it is reviled that the only reason why Celestia has been around for a 1000 years is because she used the age spell to keep herself young until the day she could meet her sister again and make things right between them.
@Background Pony
Actuelly it’s possible that that was just history book ( if you look at the background and the titles of those books some are spells other are old history ) and not a spell book. As Sunset said “This book says it’s possible for a pony to become as powerful as a Alicorn” but never mention an actual spell.
And “Sleepless in Ponyville.”
@MagnificentTrixie
>we’ll never actually see her friends die
Unless the FIM writers REALLY don’t want Hasbro making a sequel :3
Cause see even though they don’t make horses out of glue anymore it’s a really easy place to murder someone and hide their body anyway.
The only ones we’ve seen are Celestia and Luna, and it’s clear that they’re on an entirely different level than, say, Princess Cadance.
Princess Celestia starting out as a normal unicorn eons ago with her own “mane six” friendship group is part of my head canon.
Oh, relax. My own headcanon is that alicorns are mortal and that Celestia and Luna will age and die as normal now that the latter is back from the moon. I’m just having some fun with the ol’ hornet’s nest.
In was shown the Sunset Shimmer arc in the comics. It wasn’t used, though.
