Oh god. If you don’t know, this episode was called The Ice Cream Wars, and the ice cream sellers having this feud have Scottish accents. You know why?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_Ice_Cream_Wars This was going on in Glasgow at the time. The short version: Competing drug sellers who operated from ice cream trucks were having some good old-fashioned GANG WARFARE. Hence, “Ice Cream Wars.”

And someone thought “That’d make the basis for a good episode for a kids’ show about colorful little ponies. In fact, let’s make this one star mostly fillies!

Just search more of the ‘g1’ tag and you can enjoy more examples of good old 80s fiction for kids. This show is hardly extreme by 80s standards, but it does have a lot of diversity.

Although, anything tagged ‘My Little Pony Tales’ is actually early 90s, and trades out a bit of darkness for more insanity.

Magnificent Bastard
A show….for LITTLE GIRLS….designed to market and sell a line of toys…for LITTLE GIRLS…..and it has fucking tanks in it. I don’t care if they shot ice cream for ammunition a tank is still a damn tank. Not even Barbie had freakin’ tanks in it (maybe Jem did since that had some pretty ballsy shit already).

Good Primus what else did this show have? Evil Ninja Pirates that rode on mutant dinosaurs that breathed fire perhaps?
