Description

Lauren Faust and her work made me question my manhood at first, but then I realized that I don’t give a flying feather about society’s views of traditional gender roles.

You mean like how the rest of us are constantly hampered by Anti-Religious Dogma?

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Just look at the statistics from those surveys on EQD. 10% bi? 1% gay/lesbian? I’m prolly not going to go into the deeper psychology of that but there’s definitely something groundbreaking about the sheer uniqueness/intelligence/eccentricity of the demographics of the brony community, not to mention the immense luck required for it to actually have come about.

Though, on larger levels it tends to be the reverse. Females have a tough time shaking off the roles ascribed to them in later life (Homemaker archetype). We are a bit of an enigma. Or at least we are internally. The external haterad and pressure is par for the course.

True, hampered still by religious dogma and constant social pressure. Its getting better, barely. The wage gap is closing at least.

That being said, the brony fandom is odd. Its traditionally been less taboo and easier for females to move against defined gender roles, or atleast in a minor level (take tomboys for example) then it has been for males. Society has always pressed the “perfect male” archetype. My old scio prof had a quote “Masculinity is the biggest lie ever told to men”.

v Going to be damn hard to alter, though. Feminine submission is embedded into almost every aspect of almost every culture.

Gender roles are the preconceptions of masculinity and femininity, and the specific features and qualities that should be done there within. Its a social construct that may or may not be influenced by nature, but that gets into the nature V. Nurture argument.

Ea, gender roles are ascribed by society anyway. Anyone who thinks they are set in stone and descended from onhigh needs a basic lesson in Scio 101.
