I have to disagree. I rather like the lavender background. It matches the hair and the tone used for shading her top without being so similar that everything blends together.

One of the parts of colour-matching that a lot of artists forget (ones that do both light- and dark-skinned humanizations, though the latter are worse) is making sure the background does not clash with the character.

This is a great example of something that might have looked decent with a neutral BG, but the bright purple (and bright blue above Rarity’s left ear) just hurts the eyes.
