Really, how does this affect the functioning of the site? I frankly don’t care what the staff say or do as long as I can keep going to derpiboo.ru to see pictures of ponies.

Honestly this is one of the most competently run pony art sites out there. It might be slightly immature, but there’s nothing incompetent about taking the piss out of a stuck-up artist who has just said that they want nothing more to do with your site.
 
The staff here should work in the interests of the people actually using the site - not random idiots from tumblr who blog about how offensive derpibooru is.

I see Smiling wasted no time in demonstrating just how incompetent and immature he is.

They say they won’t do anything bad with it, just like Google’s motto is “don’t be evil” and the NSA insist that they aren’t spying on everyone.
 
The fact is, if they wanted to restrict what they could do with it then they would have put those restrictions in the terms of use. Since they haven’t, you only have their word that they won’t screw you over.

Actually, I think what that stuff means is they can freely use your art like on the front page, or in example thingies, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to claim complete ownership over your art, and do what they want with it, and sell it, and stuff.  
That was clairified like 7 years ago. I think you’re misunderstanding it still.

They can take your stuff and do whatever they want with it.
 
Oh, and point 4, where uploading an image also allows them to use your username and pretty much anything you put on the site outside of deviations as well.

Sense I mostly just put up fanart on DA, I’m not worried about that anyways,

I stopped using DA a while back when they made that change to their AUP that allows them to use your work for profit without having to give you credit.

Who knows? I’ve actually run into a few baw-blockers, or people who can’t take harmless critique on DA, and will block you from their page in a heartbeat, if you say anything they don’t like, critique their work, (even in a harmless/polite way) or like something they don’t. (Seriously, I actually got blocked by a few Sonic fans, because I like the Sonic comic series, or if I just disagree with them on something. How dare I!)
 
I know quite a few cool people on DA to, so I’m not saying all/most people are like that on DA. Just a few…

They don’t want it reposted outside of their hugboxes where they can censor any criticisms. They have to keep it to places like Tumblr and DA where you can only upvote/favorite it, not downvote. Which only encourages people to be harsher in their critique (and the occasional ad-hominem) than they would normally be.

Yeah, it is pretty much free publicity, (Especially, when they’re “source” links, are linked back to their DA accounts, or tumblr.) but if they don’t want that, it’s their loss.
 
I think people don’t understand this is basically an “archive” site, and while we have some obnoxious commentators admittedly, we’re still not as “out of control” as some sites like 4Chan. (There is some moderation here.) So I don’t see how we’re “poisonous.” There’s actually some pretty cool people here.

Because DeviantArt and tumblr have made them vain and self-absorbed. They expect total control of any place where their pictures can be seen.

I have never, ever been able to understand why people object to having their art posted here, so long as its properly credited and sourced. Protip: it’s free publicity.

Y’know, back in the Ponibooru days, I was actually flattered somebody posted something of mine on that site. (And they credited me, at least, and such, so I can’t complain.)
 
This is more like an “archive” site, alot of people don’t realize, it’s not really “art theft,” unless somebody is claiming they made the image which they didn’t. (And usually when that happens, people are quick to correct that anyways.)
