Here’s where guesswork on colorscheme comes into play. The outfit initially screams “white” but with that HUGE collar, it then basically becomes a “Saturday Night Fever” outfit, and disco certainly doesn’t fit Rarity.
The gala red color that’s common to this dress and others seems to work well, particularly against the blue of her cutie mark and the indigos of the hair, so I’m assuming that.

At the very least, we know that AJ has no idea.
My read on that segment is that the ponies don’t expect to be there - the costumes were “created” as part of whatever “Maretropolis” may be - a dream, a magic spell, etc.
Rarity would certainly design something a lot more expressive if she had the choice.
Guess it depends on what her power set is (beyond typical unicorn powers).
Granted, there’s not much to work with from the animatics. But it appears much functional than fashionable here.
