You’re right. It’s not important. I do it for fun. I don’t know why other people do it.
It doesn’t appear to work for upvotes and downvotes. Only faves.
Does that only work with faves?
And why is having your name on it so important? One only has to have an upvote to know it’s liked.
Actually, you can’t do that with upvotes because upvotes don’t show your name below the image comments section, hence the “public” in public faving.
No, that’s what upvotes are for…
Another way people look at faving is kinda like a public endorsement of the pic. Sorta like saying “Hi, I’m X and I like this picture enough to come out and publicly say so.”
What is the point of faving every pic there is? I only fave pics I want to save…

Images you’ll want to search one specific one out from by tag -> fav, upvote,
images you’ll not want others to see -> upvote,
everything else -> fav, no upvote

I figured as much, plus I only just found out it was case-sensitive. Problem solved.

I’m not entirely sure how you’re getting “faved_by:” to work.
Is it a search function, or do you have to type it in the URL? I’m sure I’m missing something here. Maybe linking an example would help.
Mostly it’s stuff from back before Derpibooru had faves.
