I like the show for the same reason I like most other cartoons, it makes me laugh and doesn’t resort to innuendo humor, something I practically OD-ed on in high school. Also it isn’t predictable or a drama factory like most “adult” shows.

…what attitude?
Well said.
If you are kind, you are weak.
If you are honest, you are stupid.
If you are humble, you are dumb.
If you help others, you are asking for trouble.
If you are not willing to step on others’ necks to promote yourself, you are deserve no recognition.
Those kind of things. They are practically force-feeded to kids.
So i presume we just got tired.
It was a combination of very, very low expectations and a feeling of cynical despair regarding current trends in writing.
I first watched FiM to humor my brother and didn’t expect much, and soon found that I quite liked watching a show that wasn’t written with the assumption that interesting characters have to be complete bastards. There are too many shows, movies, books and video games these days that I never get through because at some point I realize that all the characters are just jerks and I don’t care what happens to any of them.
For me the appeal is that the characters are people that I would actually enjoy spending time with.
It also helps that the character designs in general are a work of adorable genius. Ponies are just about the cutest characters ever designed, and I do have a soft spot for cute things.
I can’t speak for everyone, but they happened to have caught me at a very psychologically vulnerable moment. After a while, I’ve grown somewhat dependent on them.
I could argue that they’re “cute” and activate the pleasure centre of our brains, but it’s gotta be deeper than that.
Real men are unafraid to love something generally considered “unmanly” LIKE ponies, and admit that they do.
But that’s too wordy.
I love T.Pie! Have some Jihad! >:C (throws Jihad towards face)
So adorable.
