So are you saying that Spike can break the fourth wall?
Or the fact that Twilight acknowledge, if slightly, the fact when Spike brought it up.
It is only visible through the fourth wall.
Yeah, that’s the only in-universe explanation I can come up with: because Discord was messing with the Mane 6 and Twilight was part of that group, she couldn’t see the change in colors (just as the others didn’t make note of it either), but Spike, being out of the group, was able to see it.
Fuck, now Discord’s gotten to me!
Maybe the last one has merit, but I’m just going with Twilight’s kind of stupid when it comes to dealing with others.
I’m trying really hard here to find a plausible explanation. Maybe she didn’t have her contacts in? Hadn’t had her morning coffee? Simply didn’t give a shit? Brain fart?
Since her friends showed no signs of such, only showing ill traits after conversion, I find that highly unlikely.
Or maybe she was only getting mad at them and wanting nothing to do with them because the spell discord did was starting to kick in. Then when she realized why she was friends with them it un-discorded them and made her realize how to fix them. (By making them remember)
I chalk that up to the fact that villains of Equestria have some inability to see danger when it’s right in front of them. (Chrysalis, Discord, Nightmare Moon)
Sombra, Trixie, and Sunset Shimmer didn’t have this problem.
So, it appears to only affect immortals.
Spike acted better in the situation. If Twilight fully grasped what Discord had done, she wouldn’t have become so angry and aggressive towards them. Nor would she not want anything to do with them as well. I doubt she figured out that they were discorded until she became discorded herself.
Maybe she knew all along but just didn’t know what to do until realizing the memory spell.

On earth it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to not recognize someone after years of not seeing them. But ponies barely change how they look from filly to old hag, plus their features are much more identifiable and you could know everypony in equestria with ease.
Well she didn’t act like she realized it until she zapped them with a memory spell we had no idea she had.
It was more like fake!Cadance didn’t even seem to recognize Twilight during that encounter, and that’s what caused Twilight to start looking at her suspiciously.
Yeah her only tip off was that she didn’t know their special dance and that she was being a little off-ish with her friends.
Given what we know, we can assume that she hasn’t been in contact with Cadance for quite some time. (As well as her brother, since she only got the invitation or had any knowledge of the wedding the day prior…Shining is a douchebag.) So her claims were petty and kind of ridiculous. (of course, Cadance shooting green beams into Shining’s head and turning his eyes green-derped was kind of big proof.)
