I actually realized this from self observation months ago, but never paid any serious attention to it. Neat to hear my experimentation has been vindicated.

It’s actually a technique that simulates realistic eye movement, your eyes don’t smoothly transition, even as you read this text, you may notice your eye jumps from text to text and is not a smooth motion. You may notice now as you look around, your eyes will focus on one object at a time and not smoothly slide across the room. This is played up slightly to simulate erratic eye movements often seen in patients that suffer from paranoia, glancing quickly to anything that moves or could pose a threat. It’s something animators are taught in university.
