Well, these are MAGICAL ponies after all. S, I don’t think it’s anything out of the ordinary…

a lot of protein in free-range equine diets comes from insects inadvertently swallowed. they will also go out of their way to eat small mammals, bird eggs, etc if there is a nutritional need for more protein/food in general. if you go back to the middle ages and even fairly recent times there were cases of horses killing and eating people. before the advent of mass production of firearms a lot of “safe” animals could easily terrorize villages. a lot of eastern societies (mostly nomads) often supplemented their horses’ diets with meat/blood.

Meat. IT’S GOOD FOR YOOOOOOOOOUUU!!!!

Still less scarier than how most North Americans get their meat products. At least they eat organic foods in Equestria.

During the lunch room scene she was just mimicking Fluttershy grabbing the same food she was ( Veggie Burger, Fruit Salad, and a Apple ). There were normal burgers and hot dogs on the cafeteria shelves as well. So if she had not meet up with this worlds Fluttershy Twilight would have more then likely would have eaten meat.
