My high school for example, had students who volunteered to work in the library. So Cheerilee might be just about the same age as those senior year students.

They must be – I don’t remember it being explicitly stated, but Sunset Shimmer won the crown three years in a row. For it to be her fourth year, she’d have to be a senior. Big Mac doesn’t necessarily attend Canterlot High. He was helping Applejack.

My friends and I talked about this afterward – now, if Granny Smith was at the founding of Ponyville, and according to Twilight Sparkle, Ponyville has been doing Winter Wrap Up the same way for hundreds of years, Granny Smith is at least a few hundred years old. I’d say that’s enough variation in who can be considered your “peer” if the prime is long enough that compressing that life span down to a human one could realistically make her old enough to teach at a school where the mane six are high school seniors.
