Actually I have a head cannon that “waste” tends to contain a sort of “anti-magic” or “void energy” as energy has been sucked out of it.
 
Even trying to touch it with something like telekinesis will just result a reaction similar to an electric short until cancellation is achieved.
 
For the most part this is just considered inconvenient but especially with particularly “potent” samples from heavy magic users it can and sometimes is used to make “spell proof” or “magic resistant” items or materials.
