Glues can be produced from any number of things. Including rendering tar out of tree bark and letting it set to adhere two things together. But the tar-glue doesn’t typically hold up to weathering, but mixing it with something like ochre can give the plant based glue something extra to keep it from degrading from moisture.

Alternatively, glue can be produced from extracting protein strands from milk. This was a favorite of the Greeks, Romans, and an alternative adhesive for the Mongols.

And finally there is the glue made from connective tissue, often rendered out through a hydrolysis process. The connective tissue used is from animal remains such as… “Fish”…
