Artist’s comment:
Full Sail was still trying to make sense of what had just happened to him when his body slammed into the ocean. The impact knocked the wind out of him and left him stunned
One second he’d been running across the deck of the brig Wave Dancer bringing another powder charge to the 12pdr he’d been assigned to. He remember seeing the master gunner waving frantically for him to hurry when suddenly a look of horror came over the grisly old stallion. Then everything changed.
The young stallion felt the detonation more than he heard it. One moment he had been extending his right arm to pass the linen bag of powder to the gunner; then all of the sudden he had found himself violently thrown high into the air. It was like a giant had grabbed him tossed him like ragdoll into the air. All around him had been other crew members, timbers, ropes, lines, and other things that had once been the brig.
They must’ve hit the powder magazine below deck. The stallion thought. They’d been one day away from arriving at port Wibildon when they found themselves being pursued by black xebec that overtook them with almost unnatural speed. Full Sail had only gotten a few brief glimpses of the other crew before the fighting had begun, but what he’d seen was the stuff of nightmares. A hideous collections of rogues, murders, cutthroats, and other assorted scallywags.
He was slowly sinking beneath the waves; above him he could see the broken, burning remains of the Wave Dancer. The xebec had come alongside and its crew had been preparing to board the brig when then explosion had occurred. As the stallion sank deeper he could see that the other ship was starting to sink as well. He could make out the bodies of other ponies along with assorted cannons and crates they had stowed down in the brig’s holds. Thrashing around on the surface was what he assumed must be the crew of the other ship.
Part of him knew he should try to swim back up to the surface, but another part of him knew it was a fool’s errand. Even he was not murdered by the remaining pirates it wouldn’t matter. Trapped out on the open sea with no vessel to pick him up would probably just end up drowning later, or dying from thirst days later.
No. He thought. No this is better. Best to get it over quick. No need to drag things out. He closed his eyes and accepted his fate this wasn’t so bad. It was quiet and calm down here and somepony was gently caressing his face.
His eyes snapped open to find himself staring at the face of the beautiful white mare. She was gently holding his head as they sank deeper into depths of the abyss. Suddenly he heard her voice in his head.
Come with me darling. There so many who want to meet you; you and your fellow shipmates fought valiantly. For that reasons the princesses have instructed us to bring all of you to them so they may reward you.

Full Sail shook his head as if trying to clear cobwebs from his mind. At the same time he started making a futile attempt to swim back toward the surface when the mare gently grabbed one of his. She smiled and shook her head. Once again he heard her voice in his mind.
“No darling. Your duties, obligations, and responsibilities to the surface world are over now. You are free! Come! Come with me dear! The princesses are eager to meet all of you!”
Then she started leading him down into depths of the sea. Looking around Full Sail could see others members of Wave Dancers crew being led down as well by…..mermares?
He didn’t know why but he wasn’t alarmed by this sudden change of events. It seemed alright to him. Still as they descended further into the depths another thought popped into his head. Will you be bringing the crew of the ship as well?
The mare looking over at him and smiled as she shook her head which made her violet blue mane bob in the water. No darling. Others will take care of them.
Back on the surface, the ocean in the immediate was taking on a reddish hue as great schools of sharks and barracudas tore the pirates apart. Their screams carried on the ocean breeze but nopony heard them.
This is one of the drawing I started during my recent Picarto stream. That evening I had RomeTwin as my special guest on the stream since this would normally be my Talk Like a Pirate Day stream so I decided to draw that theme.
