Ah, yes. I’d forgotten about the misogynist bits. A lot of his writing includes female characters being mutilated or horribly murdered.
Honestly, that bit doesn’t surprise me so much, considering the setting, but what irks people so is that he often does it to otherwise strong, confident female characters.
The particular Sisters of Battle murdered by the Grey Knights? They were survivors who’d managed to hold off the forces of Chaos until the Knights arrived.
And the Mary Sues. Can’t forget the Mary Sues.
Don’t forget, their allies they killed to paint themselves were the primarily female Sisters of Battle, which led some people to believe Ward might also be a misogynist.
For those who don’t understand what fluff or crunch mean, long story short, this guy is considered a terrible, biased writer.
Some isn’t TOO bad. He turned a race of life-exterminating soulless robots into a fractured group of mini-empires with their own agendas. Your mileage may vary on whether that was good or not.
He also had the Grey Knights, a group of Space Marines notable for their training and ability to counter Chaos, murder a bunch of their own allies and paint themselves in their blood to protect themselves. Which they’ve never had to do in the past.
Also, and this is what pisses a lot of Warhammer 40K fans off, he claims that all Space Marines secretly wish they were Ultramarines. Who just so happen to be his favourite faction.
This man is a douchebag game designer who can’t write good game fluff OR game crunch to save his life, and is an unabashed Ultramarines fanboy.
Could you at least give some context?
