Ebony Rose is a 39 year old unicorn mare who was born and raised in Dazzledell Hollow and works as a funeral director alongside her father, who is the small town’s sole undertaker. Introspective, quiet, respectful, and polite to a fault, Ebony, and by extension, her father are well respected within the town’s populace.
Ms. Rose is most dedicated to her job and regards it as a duty of care towards those that need her services. She is well known to go the extra mile and thoroughly research the deceased in order to give them the best funeral possible. She sees funerals not as an ending of an era, but as a celebration of the individual’s life, and as preparations for their rebirth into the afterlife.
Rarely seen outside of working hours, Ebony is not an antisocial mare at all, she is just “married to her job,” as she puts it. However, occasionally, she can be seen in town mingling with the locals, or having a quiet glass of white wine with her closest friends. Notably, she is a very close friend of Gilded Laurel, the head surgeon for the local General hospital, and local café owner, Marmalade.
Physically, Ebony Rose is of fine health and fitness, and is notably physically strong for a unicorn mare. She is a little under average size for a unicorn mare, and is 3 feet and 9 inches, or just over 114 centimetres tall, and 38 pounds, or just under 17.24 kilogrammes in weight. Apart from an elegant black suit she wears while working, the only other item she regularly wears is a black, lacy choker.
Her magical power is very slightly above the Equestrian national average, and Ebony knows only the standard heat, light and telekinesis spells that are taught in the Equestrian public school system, and did not have any further specialist magical education beyond a few basic additional self defense spells. Her magical aura matches the colour of her eyes.
Ebony is, privately of course, a deeply religious mare, and follows the Harmony Cult- an ancient religion that has existed for at least as long as Princesses Luna and Celestia have, and deifies them as the heralds of the creator Goddess Gaia, or more commonly known as Mother Nature. Ebony is no bigot, and never brings up religion unless it is to be incorporated into a funeral service.
As a side-project, it is a hobby of hers to grow beautiful black roses, and she will arrange them into wreaths for free as a mark of personal respect for each and every funeral she works on. At her small cottage just outside of Dazzledell Hollow, she has large, well organised gardens dedicated to this task, and the care of her gardens takes up a fair amount of her free time.
When it comes to more personal matters, Ebony Rose is heterosexual, but is currently not really interested in relationships, and neither is she interested in having children, even by adoption. However, it is not impossible to catch her eye, and any prospective suitor would have to understand that her self-sworn duty to the departed is a huge deal for her, and not consider it a potential stumbling block in any relationship.
