The joke here is that Boxing Day is being taken literally, with boxing gloves.

Boxing Day is December 26th (yes, the day after Christmas), so called because Catholic churches would open their donation boxes and give the money to the poor.
What’s a Boxing Day?
Almost all of them in Europe and The Americas, as far as I know, although there are some amateur boxing associations that divide things solely by weight class, so– hypothetically at least– anyone could compete in their weight range. There are lucha libre leagues in Mexico and South America that let women fight men– like the famous Fighting Cholitas of Bolivia, for example– but I’m not sure how “official” any of them are.
This actually reminds me of a question…are combat-type sports such as boxing and MMA still divided by gender?
I thought Boxing Day was named that because everyone packed up boxes filled with all the gifts they were going to return.
